Anand Swayamprakasam is from the United Kingdom. He originally trained as a doctor, but also harboured ambitions of one day becoming a published children’s author.
Before Anand took the WriteStorybooksForChildren online course he knew he wanted to write. But, like many children’s writers starting out, his first major challenge was learning how to construct a good story.
At the same time, he also pondered on how he would actually get his stories out there once they had been created.
WriteStorybooksForChildren.com solved both issues for Anand. Through the course he learned a range of simple, but highly effective techniques that enable anyone to construct a compelling story. One such technique that had a powerful impact on Anand’s story and character creation was the ‘Why’ question because it helped him to understand the motivation behind the characters he was creating.
Together, these techniques have enabled Anand to create and self-publish his first picture book, “Homer the Hungry Cat”, which is an amusing story about an greedy cat and the mischief he gets up to. The confidence he gained from its success inspired him to create a second book called ‘Pigs Can’t Fly’, which is a funny bedtime story about a little pig, named Zig, who is determined to fly.
From the very first module I was immediately struck by the high quality of the training materials provided in your course. Each module was packed with lots of useful and relevant information. The writing was clear and concise. And I got the impression that the modules were actually constructed with the learner in mind.
Another thing that I like about the course is that the course content continues to be developed and made available to existing users. Since, I originally completed the course brand new modules on self-publishing have been added. These modules have been extremely useful as I learn more and more about the children’s book industry.
As I have continued to develop as an author, further opportunities have become available to me. For example, I recently had the opportunity to share one of my stories at the Manchester Children’s Book Festival. In summary, the Write Storybooks For Children course has helped me to make the transition from wanting to write to becoming an author.
